It’s been well-documented that we here at SI Lifestyle are obsessed with Margot Robbie’s recent red carpet fashion—in fact, we’ve written whole articles about it.
Working alongside talented celebrity stylist Andrew Mukamal, it feels like the actress has embodied every aesthetic in recent years, from Old Hollywood radiance to pink Barbie beauty, often taking inspiration from whichever soon-to-be blockbuster film she’s promoting at the moment. Most recently, the duo channeled to-die-for Victorian-inspired looks while promoting Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, merging modern trends with timeless cuts for several headline-making moments.
And the fashion-forward goodness keeps coming, as Robbie and Mukamal teamed up to showcase another incredible ensemble this week, once again taking inspiration from the past.
In a post shared to Instagram this week, Mukamal posted a photo set of the actress on the red carpet at the Vogue Summer Ball by Vogue Australia, wearing a custom Alexander McQueen gown from the designer’s Autumn/Winter 2026 pre-collection.
The sheer black gown was crafted from skull-printed silk chiffon and featured sequin embroidery throughout. Cut with a flowing handkerchief-style hemline and a daringly dipped back, the piece was pure Y2K punk rock, further centering the stylish goth-meets-glam vibes the actress has been embracing on her latest press tour. Her long blonde tresses were left down for the look, curled so they cascaded onto her shoulders. Meanwhile, her makeup was a grunge-meets-glow glam, with smoky eyes, rosy cheeks and nude lips the metaphorical cherries on top.
And if this particular gown looks familiar to some millennial fashion fans out there, that’s probably because this isn’t the first time you’ve seen it! The designer had previously showcased a similar gown on model Kate Moss in 2004 during their “Black” runway show, with the unique skull pattern being something of a signature for the brand.
As you can imagine, we weren’t the only ones feverishly adding this look to our already overpopulated Y2K moodboards, with plenty of fashion fans taking to Mukamal’s comment section to applaud the pair’s latest luxe collaboration.
