Marian, Lourdes, and Mahanoy win in blowout fashion – Pottsville Republican Herald


Tamaqua 44, Pottsville 22

The Tamaqua Blue Raiders defeated the Pottsville Crimson Tide 44-22 on Tuesday night in Tamaqua. The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 10-4 lead after one quarter of play and led 24-9 at halftime. The Crimson Tide had a slightly more productive second half with 13 points, but was unable to slow down the Tamaqua offense that posted 20 points in the second half.

Laure Ligenza had a double-double for Tamauqua with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Millie Black also recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Leah Black recorded 13 rebounds.

Leading Pottsville was Jo Barnhart with nine points, while Jes Siminitus contributed five points in the loss for the Crimson Tide.

North Schuylkill 41, Pine Grove 40

The North Schuylkill Spartans defeated Pine Grove Area on Tuesday night in Pine Grove, 41-40.

The Spartans were led by 15 points from Mya Conti, while Gianna Capone contributed eight points, Jadelin Stitzer had seven points, and Ella Digris recorded six points in the win.

For Pine Grove, Callee Leffler led the Cardinals with 14 points, while Meadow Umbenhauer had nine points, Addy Reichert with eight and Hollynn Sampson with seven.

A back-and-forth contest throughout, the two sides were tied 10-10 after one before Pine Grove went into half with a 26-24 lead. A low-scoring third quarter saw just a total of eight points before North Schuylkill outscored Pine Grove 13-10 in the final quarter of play.

Marian 65, Natvity 13

Marian cruised to victory over Nativty on Tuesday, 65-13. The Fillies led 23-0 after one quarter of play and 40-7 at halftime before totalling nine and 16 points in the third and fourth quarters, while Nativity struggled offensively with six points in the third quarter and zero points in the fourth.

Leading Marian in the win was Aaddy Marek with 33 points, DeAnna Pugh with 11 points, and Brooke Hannis-Miskar with seven points.

For Nativity, Emma Pinkey had four points, and Finley McNamara had three points. Peyton Evans, Macie Rushannon and Emily Lorence all found their way into the boxscore as well.

Schuylkill Haven 47, Blue Mountain 38

Schuylkill Haven defeated Blue Mountain 47-38 with 15 points from McKenna Runkle and 11 points from Kylie Siket.

Blue Mountain in the lost saw seven different players score, including Mila Fleagle and Kendall Koch, both scoring nine points. Callie Peel had eight points, and Hailey Place recorded six points.

The Hurricanes led 12-9 after the first quarter and 22-16 at halftime. They outscored the Eagles 11-8 in the third quarter while both teams had big fourth quarters offensively with 14 points each.

Lourdes 52, Tri-Valley 16

Lourdes picked up their fourth win of the season, 52-16 over Tri-Valely. The Red Raiders put up 26 points in the first quarter and 13 in the second, leading 39-6 at halftime.

Leading the Red Raiders were Hannah Lokitis with 12 points, Kylla Sandri with nine, and Karm Schroyer with nine. In total, eight different Red Raiders scored in the win.

Leading Tri-Valley was Avery Miller with 11 points, Ava Snyder recorded four, and Ivy Sankus had one point.

Mahanoy 57, Weatherly 19

Mahanoy picked up a big win over Weatherly on Tuesday, 57-19. Ella Connolly had 23 points for the Golden Bears while Felicia Bro contributed 11 points in the win. Naomi Kowalick had eight points, and Brookyln Chrstian recorded six points.

The Golden Bears were strongly offensive throughout the game with 16 points in the first quarter, `19 points in the second, and 20 in the third. After leading 55-13 after three quarters, Mahanoy took their foot off the pedal, scoring just two points in the fourth quarter while continuing their strong defensive play, shutting out Weatherly in the fourth quarter.

Maci Kane and Cortney Snyder led Weatherly with six points each.
