We profile the 2026 entry from Greece including details on the artist, song, how it was chosen, odds, fan reaction and how the nation has fared at Eurovision.
Greece made their Eurovision debut in 1974, the year that ABBA won.
Over the decades Greece has had varying degrees of success until 2001 when Greece finished in third place for the very first time with Antique’s (I Would) Die For You.
Following 2001, Greece managed to stay in the Top 10 for most of the decade, which included their first win in 2005 with Helena Paparizou’s My Number One.
The last 10 years Greece has finished in the Top 10 three times but has also failed to qualify for the Grand Final three times.
Last year Klavdia represented Greece with Asteromata where she finished in 6th place returning Greece back to the Top 10.
In Vienna Akylas would be hoping to get Greece their second win or a least maintain Greece’s spot in the Top 10!

(Rankings as of 7 April 2026)
About the artist
Akylas Mytilinaios, known simply as Akylas, was born on 11 February 1999 in Serres, a city in northern Greece.
His passion for music developed early, studying at the Serres Music School where he built a strong foundation in music theory, vocals and songwriting.
After leaving high school, he moved to Thessaloniki, where he pursued culinary studies and worked in hospitality.
During this time, he also explored performance through theatre workshops, further refining his stage presence.
Akylas later spent two years performing as a singer on a cruise ship before relocating to Athens to focus fully on his music career.
He first gained wider attention by posting cover songs on TikTok, where his videos quickly went viral and caught the eye of both audiences and industry professionals.
In 2021, he began sharing these covers regularly, building a strong following and releasing his debut single Fthinokraso later that year.
The following year, he competed in season eight of The Voice of Greece, making it through to the live shows.
Akylas’ breakthrough came in 2024 with his hit single Atelié, which helped establish him as a dynamic performer.
Since then, he has continued to develop a distinctive sound that blends contemporary influences with elements of his Greek heritage.
About the song
Akylas’ Eurovision 2026 entry Ferto is a high-energy track that blends techno and hyper-techno influences with a distinctly modern Greek sound, showcasing his edgy and contemporary style.
Written by Akylas alongside Orfeas Nonis, TEO,x3 (Theofilos Pouzbouris) and papatanice (Thomas Papathanasis), the song carries a deeper message beneath its pulsating production, touching on themes of excess and the constant desire for more in today’s society.
Theofilos previously represented Greece at Eurovision in 2014 with the Rise Up as part of the duo Freaky Fortune where they finished in 20th place in the Grand Final.
Released in February 2026, Ferto quickly gained traction, winning Greece’s national final Sing For Greece 2026 and establishing itself as a bold, club-driven entry that stands out for both its sound and its social commentary.
How Aklyas was chosen for Eurovision?
Following the success of Greece’s return to a national final format last year, the broadcaster expanded the selection process for 2026.
Rebranded as Sing For Greece, the competition grew from a single show into a three-show event, featuring two semi-finals and a Grand Final.
A total of 28 entries competed, split evenly across the two semi-finals, with the top seven from each progressing to the Final.
From its release, Akylas’ entry Ferto emerged as a clear favourite, building strong momentum both within Greece and across the Eurovision fan community.
In the Final, he delivered a clean sweep, topping the international jury, Greek jury and public vote.
With that, Akylas secured victory and was selected to represent Greece at Eurovision 2026, becoming the first winner under the revamped Sing For Greece format.
Greece will compete in the first semi-final of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest on 12 May 2026 in Vienna.
