PURVIS, Miss. (WDAM) – Lamar Christian School (LCS) partnered with the Mississippi Forestry Commission and the Mississippi State Extension Office for the Wood Magic Science Fair.
Students and other visiting children were placed in groups of three, and they rotated through three stations that taught them about the importance of wood and preventing forest fires.
The Mississippi Forestry Commission offers various scholarship programs and resources for students looking to build a career in forestry, and the science fair was organized to bring those resources to light.
“It helps us learn what we need to know for it, and guide us towards what the program is really about to see if it’s something we really want to do,” LCS student Kara Cooper said.
“He mentioned that we’re out in the woods most of the day with that program, and that’s something I like to do. I don’t like sitting down to work or anything like that.”
The head of LCS said they were thankful for the Mississippi Forestry Commission and the Mississippi State Extension Office for coming to educate the students, and they would love to have them back again whenever they would like to return.
