Xbox Game Pass pricing was already a hot topic over the weekend thanks to some comments from Windows Central’s Jez Corden, and now a new report from Tom Warren and The Verge adds some serious weight to the topic.
The discussion first started when Windows Central’s Jez Corden took to the airwaves for a solo edition of the XB2 Podcast, discussing some of what he’d been hearing out of Microsoft. Namely, that this years Call of Duty may not be included in Game Pass in the way all other 1st Party releases currently are. Here’s what Jez had to say:
If they take Call of Duty out of Game Pass this year, which…is a possibility, from what I’ve heard, it’ll kind of reveal some of the cracks in the strategy.
Now, in a new report from The Verge, Senior Editor Tom Warren has seen an internal memo from Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma, who seemingly agrees with player sentiment following the heavy price increase Xbox Game Pass saw last year.
“Game Pass is central to gaming value on Xbox. It’s also clear that the current model isn’t the final one. Short term, Game Pass has become too expensive for players, so we need a better value equation. Long term, we will evolve Game Pass into a more flexible system which will take time to test and learn around.”

Sounds like we can expect some changes at some point in the future, and there’s some additional detail in Tom’s reporting. As for just how Xbox will communicate these changes and if they’ll even happen – we’ll just have to wait and see.
