The Ministry of Culture has officially announced the proposals that have been selected for the artistic program for the initiative “All of Greece One Civilization 2026.” This year’s program, which focuses on the famous verse from the play “Dyskolos” written by the famous Greek playwright Menander: “Ὡς χαρίεν ἔστ’ ἄνθρωπος, ὅταν ἄνθρωπος ᾖ” (“How beautiful-mature-is man when he is truly a man”), will take place at archaeological sites, monuments, and museums in 12 Greek regions, with the exception of the Attica Region.
The initiative aims to present Greece’s rich cultural heritage through artistic performances, exhibitions, and installations that highlight the cultural tourism opportunities that exist in regions outside Athens. The program aims to promote both the local culture and the tourism opportunities that exist in these areas, so that people become acquainted with the rich historical and cultural landscape that Greece has to offer.
Funding Categories: €15,000 and €30,000 for Selected Proposals
Two funding categories are featured in the program, with 37 proposals selected for the €15,000 category and 58 proposals chosen for the €30,000 category. These initiatives aim to promote artistic diversity while bolstering local tourism by integrating creative projects into Greece’s cultural tourism offering.
The selection process underscores the program’s role in supporting the growth of cultural tourism, particularly through locally-driven artistic endeavors that highlight regional heritage. By fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors, the initiative seeks to enrich the local cultural tourism experience and bring more visitors to historically significant and often overlooked regions.
Cultural Events Across Greece’s Iconic Sites
The events will be presented at archaeological sites, monuments, and museums throughout Greece’s 12 regions. These venues are not only the backbone of Greece’s historical and cultural identity but also key drivers of cultural tourism. By holding performances and exhibitions at these iconic locations, the initiative encourages tourists to engage more deeply with Greece’s heritage, promoting a greater appreciation of the country’s ancient traditions and contemporary cultural expressions.
This emphasis on historical and culturally rich sites aligns with global tourism trends that increasingly prioritize authentic, location-specific experiences. For tourists, this initiative provides an opportunity to experience Greece’s natural beauty and historic landmarks in a new and immersive way, which further solidifies the role of cultural tourism as a growing sector within the broader tourism industry.

Strengthening Cultural Decentralization and Tourism Impact
The program’s focus on cultural decentralization is central to its success, offering tourists new, enriching experiences beyond the popular destinations of Athens and Santorini. By bringing events to areas like Crete, Thessaloniki, and Epirus, Greece is not only boosting local tourism but also creating sustainable tourism opportunities for regions that have been traditionally less focused on large-scale tourism.
This expansion of cultural tourism aligns with Greece’s broader goals to spread the benefits of tourism to rural and regional areas, ensuring that tourism dollars reach local businesses and communities. As visitors flock to these under-explored regions, they’ll be introduced to the authentic Greek lifestyle—from local cuisine and artisanal crafts to historic landmarks and natural landscapes. This helps to preserve and promote cultural heritage while diversifying the economic benefits of tourism.
A New Chapter for Greek Culture and Tourism
The program “All of Greece One Civilization 2026” presents a great opportunity for Greece to improve its cultural tourism scene while celebrating innovative art and local heritage. The decentralized approach to cultural events ensures that Greece has a sustainable platform for promoting its rich cultural history while developing cultural tourism in less visited areas.
As Greece continues to solidify its position in the world tourism industry, programs such as the “All of Greece One Civilization” initiative are crucial in broadening the appeal of Greece to the global tourist population. By incorporating cultural tourism with the artistic program, the Ministry of Culture is creating a sense of connection between the tourist population and Greece’s cultural treasures, ensuring that tourism remains a vital part of Greece’s future.
