Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has met, in Athens, with Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral AI, one of the largest European startups in artificial intelligence, to explore areas of potential cooperation.
During the meeting, at the prime minister’s office, the two examined the possibility of training large language models within the European AI ecosystem, helping existing and new models to adapt to the Greek language and exchanging know-how, with a focus on training Greek researchers and scientists involved in AI.
The importance of developing European technological solutions and Greece’s ability to contribute substantially were emphasized, both due to its highly qualified human resources and new infrastructure, including the Pharos artificial intelligence factory under construction and the Daidalos supercomputer.
At the end of the meeting, the prime minister attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Greek government and Mistral AI, aimed at better utilizing AI in public administration, developing new digital solutions for citizens, applying AI in sectors where Greece has comparative advantages, such as shipping, and training Greek students and graduates in Mistral specialization programs.
Also participating from the Greek government were Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou, Special Secretary for AI and Data Governance at the Ministry of Digital Governance Vassilis Karkatzounis, and Special Secretary for Long-term Planning Giannis Mastrogeorgiou.
