The Melrose Trading Post is holding the Melrose Local & Sustainable Runway Show celebrating local and sustainable fashion on Sunday, March 22, from noon-3 p.m.
The event is part of Melrose Fashion Week. Staged in the center of the Melrose Trading Post on a red carpet runway, Melrose designers will showcase collections that emphasize sustainable design, including garments created from reclaimed fabrics, reworked vintage textiles and repurposed materials. The outdoor runway will feature collections from designers within the Melrose Trading Post community along with apparel created by emerging student designers from Southern California fashion programs.
The Local & Sustainable Fashion Runway Show is held in three segments highlighting established independent designers and the next generation of fashion talent. Local and Sustainable Designers Part One runs from noon-1 p.m., followed by Youth Runway Showcases from 1-2 p.m. and Local and Sustainable Designers Part Two from 2-3 p.m. The featured designers include Sausalito Blue, Eternal Return Designs, Rag Reserve, Cloven & Spiritual Psychosis, Threadhaus, HIROCO and Son of Dio. Music for the runway will be provided by DJ VFRESH, with event media produced by Chase Yi of Film Poetics.
Many of the collections incorporate recycled textiles, reclaimed materials or upcycled vintage fabrics, reflecting the growing influence of sustainable fashion within Los Angeles’ independent design community. Following the runway show, attendees can meet the designers and shop featured collections in the Runway Aisle in the Melrose Trading Post marketplace.
The Melrose Trading Post is held on Sundays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at 7850 Melrose Ave., on the campus of Fairfax High School. For information, visit melrosetradingpost .org/mfw.
