More than two thousand student projects on display at regional science fair

AUSTIN (KXAN) – The Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair returned to the Palmer Events Center this week. This event draws hundreds of students from several school districts in our area every year.

Over 900 junior and senior projects (high school level) and more than 1500 elementary projects (3rd-6th grade) were displayed Thursday and Saturday. Students were judged on everything from their topic, presentation, data organization and display.

KXAN Meteorologist Kristen Currie was one of several dozen judges this year.

A select group of winners from the junior and senior divisions will move on to the state fair. Those who participated in the elementary division went home with either a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place ribbon.

Special awards were also given out by various agencies, including the American Red Cross Serving Central Texas, City of Austin, Dell Center and Austin Energy.
