BOSTON, FEBRUARY 19, 2026: Morgan Lewis is pleased to announce the addition of partners Matthew Martel and Joseph Sconyers to its Boston office, strengthening the firm’s litigation platform and financial services capabilities. Arriving from Jones Day, Matt and Joe bring decades of experience advising leading financial institutions in complex litigation, regulatory inquiries, investigations and enforcement actions, and risk management matters, with a reputation for delivering practical, business-focused outcomes.
“Financial institutions continue to navigate heightened litigation risk and regulatory scrutiny,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Matt and Joe each have a market-leading reputation for guiding banks and other financial services clients through high-stakes disputes and investigations. Their combined experience, deep industry relationships, and collaborative approach enhance our ability to serve major financial institutions in Boston and across key markets.”
Matt has more than 25 years of experience representing global financial institutions in state and federal litigation, government investigations and enforcement actions, and bankruptcy and restructuring matters. Matt’s counseling and disputes practice focuses on structured products, including deals involving underlying consumer products such as mortgage, student loan, auto loan, credit card, and life insurance, as well as securitizations of corporate and municipal debt. Matt is an active member of the Structured Finance Association Executive Committee.
Joe is a seasoned litigator focused on complex disputes involving structured financial products. With nearly 20 years of experience, he represents financial institutions in high-risk matters arising from US and European structured finance transactions. Joe’s practice centers on contentious deals, including trustee duty claims, event-of-default disputes, servicing and administration issues, indemnification matters, and the interpretation and enforcement of transaction documents. He also provides strategic advisory counseling to help financial services clients mitigate risk, navigate difficult judgment calls, and administer transactions in uncertain or distressed circumstances.
“Matt and Joe are highly respected litigators whose practices align closely with the needs of our financial services clients,” said Troy Brown, leader of the firm’s global litigation practice. “They bring complementary experience, strong relationships with major financial institutions, and a shared commitment to collaboration. We are excited to welcome them to the firm and to our Boston litigation team.”
The addition of Matt and Joe underscores Morgan Lewis’s continued investment in its financial services capabilities, including adding high-ranking senior officials from federal government agencies, such as Alice S. Hrdy, former principal deputy assistant director of the Office of Supervision Policy at the CFPB; Rob Schwartz, former general counsel of the CFTC; William Jauquet, former acting enforcement director of the OCC; and Allen Denson, former senior attorney at the OCC, all in Washington, DC; and finance litigators Stacie Hartman in Chicago and New York and Christian Tuddenham in London.
