2026 is a packed year for movies. It’s got heavy-hitting IP blockbusters, daring adaptations, and all-new originals. Here at Nexus Point News, we wanted to take some time to spotlight the most anticipated movies for this year. Here are nearly twenty five major movies dropping in 2026, in no particular order.

Avengers: Doomsday

Let’s start swinging. The Avengers are making their big screen return this year and it promises to be an event. Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU in the role of Doctor Doom. The Russo brothers are returning to direct. Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers. The Fox X-Men are entering the MCU proper. It’s going to be massive. Avengers: Doomsday is currently slated for release on December 18, 2026.

Mother Mary

Mother Mary is a psychological drama-thriller written and directed by David Lowery, starring Anne Hathaway, Michaela Coel, and Hunter Schafer. With David Lowery, director of The Green Knight and A Ghost Story at the helm, Mother Mary is sure to be a unique experience. It’s currently slated for release by A24 on April 24, 2026.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew

Greta Gerwig is writing and directing at least two Narnia films for Netflix, with the first film adapting the prequel The Magician’s Nephew. It’s been over twenty years since Narnia first appeared on the big screen. Gerwig is one of the strongest artistic voices in the industry and it’ll be fascinating to see her take on the beloved series. The Magician’s Nephew is currently slated for release in theaters in November 2026 and then on Netflix shortly after.

Project Hail Mary

Based on the science-fiction novel by Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary stars Ryan Gosling and is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The novel is a #1 New York Times Bestseller that has received unanimous praise. Lord and Miller are a powerhouse duo, and it’ll be exciting to see them tackle this acclaimed novel. Project Hail Mary is currently slated for release on March 20, 2026.

The Bride!

Written, co-produced, and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Bride! stars Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penelope Cruz. Drawing inspiration from the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, The Bride looks to be a thrilling new adaptation and entry into the Frankenstein canon. It’s currently slated for release on March 6, 2026.

The Devil Wears Prada 2

Directed by David Frankel and featuring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway returning, this sequel coming twenty years after the original is set to loosely adapt Lauren Weisberger’s book sequel, Revenge Wears Prada. Fans of the original are in for more high-fashion drama. It’s currently set for release on May 1, 2026.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man returns to the big screen in a massive way this year. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, and more this marks the first time a Spider-Man actor has reached their fourth solo film. Fans are eagerly anticipating and speculating on what’s in store for the wall-crawler. It’s currently set for release on July 31, 2026.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

New novels for The Hunger Games means new The Hunger Games films follow. Sunrise on the Reaping is the latest book in the best-selling series by Suzanne Collins, and the film will chronicle its events on the big screen. This marks the sixth overall installment in the film franchise, and servers as both a sequel and prequel, taking place in the middle of the established timeline. It’s currently set for release on November 20, 2026.

Clayface

James Gunn has emphasized the importance a strong script for DCU films. Clayface is set to be a prime example of that. Greenlit on the proposed excellence of a script by Mike Flanagan, it will be the third movie in the DCU and a true test for the versatility of the studio. It’s currently set for release on September 11, 2026.

Disclosure Day

Disclosure Day is the next blockbuster produced and directed by legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg. Speculation has run rampant about the film’s UFO focus and what Spielberg will be exploring with it. It’s currently set to release on June 12, 2026.

Werwulf

Robert Eggers is returning this year with another gothic period horror film. This time, he’s tackling the classic werewolf monster. Specific details are being kept under wraps for now, but the film will star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson. It’s currently slated for release on December 25, 2026.

Digger

Digger is a black comedy film from Alejandro G. Iñárritu, starring Tom Cruise in the lead role. Iñárritu co-wrote the script with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris Jr., and Nicolas Giacobone. It features an ensemble cast including Jesse Plemons, Sandra Huller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, Michael Stuhlbarg, and John Goodman. It’s currently set for release on October 2, 2026.

Focker-in-Law

The Focker franchise returns with a new entry written and directed by John Hamburg. Focker-in-Law will be the fifth film in the franchise and the fourth in the main series. Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner, and Teri Polo will all be reprising their roles. It’s currently set for release on November 25, 2026.

Toy Story 5

A new entry in the beloved franchise is making its way into theaters this year. Written and directed by Andrew Stanton, it will be the first main film in the series without any involvement from co-creator John Lasseter, who left Pixar in late 2018. It’s currently set for release on June 19, 2026.

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender

Serving as a continuation of the hit Nickelodeon animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Aang is centered around Aang and the rest of Team Avatar after the events of the main series but well before The Legend of Korra. Originally slated for release in theaters, the film has since been relegated to a release on Paramount+ sometime in 2026.

Scary Movie 6

The classic horror parody movie franchise returns this year with Scary Movie 6. It will serve as a reboot in the franchise, directed by Michael Tiddes. There aren’t many details out yet, but with the way horror has evolved in the years since Scary Movie 5, it’s easy to imagine some of the swings it will take. It’s currently set for release on June 12, 2026.

Coyote vs Acme

The plot is based on a 1990 The New Yorker article by Ian Frazier of the same name, which follows Wile E. Coyote as he sues the Acme Corporation for repeatedly selling him faulty products. The film was originally shelved in November 2023 by Warner Bros. Discovery in an attempt to obtain a tax write-off. The decision was later reversed and the film found new distributors. It’s currently set for release on August 28, 2026.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

The sequel to the smash hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie hits theaters this year. Taking its name from the 2007 video game, and inspiration from the broader Mario franchise, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is poised to be a gargantuan hit at the box office. Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, it’s currently set for release on April 3, 2026.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come

The upcoming comedy horror film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett is a sequel to the 2019 film Ready or Not. Samara Weaving is reprising her role as Grace MacCaullay while Kathryn Newton joins as a co-lead. The first film was a surprising breakout, and expectations are high for the follow-up. It’s currently set for release on March 27, 2026.

The Drama

Written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, The Drama stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a couple whose relationship is shaken to its core days before their wedding. Both Zendaya and Pattinson have been on incredible hot streaks with a knack for choosing exciting projects. The film is currently set for release on April 3, 2026.

Michael

Following the life of the iconic pop star Michael Jackson, this musical biopic is poised to capture the zeitgeist. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, it’ll be interesting to see how much Michael Jackson continues to command the attention of the masses. Starring Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson in the titular role, the film is currently set for release on April 24, 2026.

Masters of the Universe

Based on Mattel’s franchise of the same name, Masters of the Universe is a sword and sorcery film directed by Travis Knight. It stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, who returns to his home planet Eternia to save it from Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. It’s currently set for release on June 5, 2026.

Dune: Part Three

The upcoming epic space opera directed by Denis Villeneuve will be the final film in his Dune trilogy. The sequel to 2024’s Dune: Part Two, Dune: Part Three will be adapting Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel, Dune Messiah. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Josh Brolin, and Rebecca Ferguson will reprise their roles from the second film. Anticipation for Dune: Part Three is massive, as fans eagerly wait to see if Villeneuve can complete a near-perfect adaptation of the story of Paul Atreides. It’s currently set for release on December 18, 2026.

Supergirl

The second film in the new DCU, Supergirl follows the adventures of Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, as she helps an unlikely ally find revenge. Based on the critically acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow graphic novel written by Tom King with art by Bilquis Evely, this entry will be a major moment for DC Studios. Starring Milly Alcock in the titular role and directed by Craig Gillespie, it’s currently set for release on June 26, 2026.

The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan returns with an adaptation of the quintessential epic. The Odyssey is an action fantasy based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic. The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and features an absolutely stacked cast. Shot around the world and entirely in IMAX 70mm, Nolan is sure to deliver a standout theatrical experience for one of the world’s oldest and most revered stories. The Odyssey is currently set for release on July 17, 2026, and it is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies of the year for every cinephile.
