The Music Box Players will present “You Can’t Take it With You” Fridays through Sundays, March 20 to 22, and 27 to 29, at the Music Box Dinner Playhouse, 196 Hughes St., Swoyersville.
“You Can’t Take it With You,” the 1937 Pulitzer Prize winning play written by Broadway greats Moss Hart and George Kaufman and winner of the 1938 Academy Award for Best Picture, is a “screwball comedy” that follows the eccentric, free-spirited Sycamore family as they clash with the stuffy, wealthy Kirby family when their children fall in love. The delightful and heart-warming play ultimately celebrates the simple joys of life over material wealth, proving once and for all that “You Can’t Take it With You.”
The play is directed by Ciaran Burke, with sets and lighting by Mike Wawrzynek, and costumes by Chloe Conway, assisted by Eyanna Gruver. An ensemble cast of 16 play the Sycamores, the Kirbys, and other characters.
Performances on Fridays, March 20 and 27, are show-only with curtain at 7:30 p.m. Saturday performances offer an optional buffet dinner beginning at 6 p.m. and Sunday performances offer a brunch at 1:30 p.m. with curtain at 3 p.m. All performances offer show-only tickets, as well.
