The Furman Department of Music will present a concert Friday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium. “Memorable Melodies” is a special concert band performance offered by members of the Poinsett Wind Symphony and Furman University Bands. The event is free and open to the public.
Presented during the Region One Honor Band Clinic, the program features familiar tunes delivered in the concert band medium. “Jupiter” from Gustav Holst’s suite “The Planets,” a haunting arrangement of “Shenandoah” by Omar Thomas, folk songs from Percy Grainger’s “Lincolnshire Posy,” and a rhapsody on “Funiculi, Funicula” are included in the program.
Buddy Deshler, Furman’s professor of trumpet, is the featured soloist on “Tico, Tico.” Music by Tara Islas and Henry Fillmore round out the program led by Sue Samuels and David Stanley.
