Erie, PA. – Schuster Theatre ’s Musical Theatre Cabaret brings audiences a vibrant musical journey, where iconic Broadway melodies are reimagined on a familiar local stage. Under the direction of Angela Howell, the program features standout songs from Chess, Hamilton, Beauty and the Beast, The Great Gatsby, Follies, and many others, creating an evening rich in both musical variety and emotional depth.

What makes the night especially meaningful is not only the diverse song selection, but also the people who bring those songs to life. A quiet yet indispensable highlight of the evening is Kate Thiem, the show’s music director. Seated at the piano for nearly the entire performance, she serves as the steady musical anchor for every act. Her playing does more than maintain tempo while supporting the singers – it guides the emotional arc of each piece, shifting seamlessly from gentle and lyrical to bright and driving. While the performers stand in the spotlight, it is Thiem’s steady playing that supports the entire show, helping the night flow smoothly and with feeling.

Musical Theatre Cabaret brings back beloved Broadway classics and creates a warm and joy-filled evening. The applause throughout the night is not just for skillfully crafted performance but also for recognition of the passionate spirit of each cast member through their expression and energy in every performance. In the end, the audience walk out with smiles, still holding onto the feeling of a special night.
