Muskingum University Unveils New Science Center Renovations – WHIZ

Lovejoy Dedication

NEW CONCORD, OH – Muskingum University dedicated the newly renovated Bill P. and Martha Johnson Lovejoy Auditorium in the Boyd Science Center on Monday afternoon.

Bill, Class of ‘51, and Martha, Class of ‘52, generously donated their $3.2 Million Estate and the University used those funds to help modernize the Science Center.

President of Muskingum University, Dr. Sue Hasseler, said this is a major renovation to a space that the entire campus utilizes as well as community members.

“The Lovejoy gift was an incredibly generous gift, over 3 Million dollars, which allowed us to do a complete rehab of our Auditorium space.” Dr. Hasseler said. “But also allowed us, with another gift from the Anderson Foundation, to update our entry space in our Science Building, allowed us to put fully accessible bathrooms up on this floor for everyone’s use and it was a catalyst to get started on fundraising for even more science related projects.”

Hasseler said around 50% of the incoming freshmen have expressed interest in going into science related careers with 41% graduating with a STEM related degree.

She said these renovations will help those students get to where they need to be and ready for their next steps.

“We want to make sure that our facility matches the kind of excellent programming that we offer to these students.” Hasseler said. “Really, to prepare them for science of the future.”
