My Mom’s Expensive-Looking Amazon Fashion Finds From $8

My mom and I have long shared a love of fashion. Whether that means meeting up to spend an afternoon pressing our noses against storefront windows in SoHo, frantically texting each other for pre-purchase opinions, or getting on the phone to try (and often fail) to justify our respective splurge-du-jour, it’s our thing. I’ve gleaned so much wardrobe wisdom from her over the years, and it would be selfish to keep it all to myself. So, I asked my mom to walk me through the in-budget items currently on her wishlist—and for permission to put her roster in writing. Thankfully, she agreed.

Her Amazon cart contains the ageless, expensive-looking building blocks of any cool girl’s closet. She explained her vision, and pointed me toward staples like a spacious, kinda-slouchy leather bag, a Carolyn Bessette Kennedy-coded mock neck top, and a Katie Holmes-worn ballet flat style poised to be everywhere this spring.

“I love everything about this jacket—it looks expensive, the cut is classic, and the pockets are great,” my mom told me. “I’m a fan of suede, faux and real alike.” It’s a great weight for spring, neither flimsy nor overly thick. 

Per my mom: “I’d wear nothing but these if I could. Quality meets comfort.” I have to agree, New Balance’s 515 V3 sneakers have almost 7,600 five-star ratings on Amazon for many reasons—arch support and stylishness chief among them.  

My mom and I are both picky about jeans, so when she praises a pair, I know she means business. “I love the fit of a high-waisted jean. Here, the cuffs are fresh and the color says ‘spring,’” she said. “The straight leg would be a nice addition to my denim collection.”

“To me, these are the epitome of comfort and polish. Steve Madden gets this style just right,” my mom said. She’s right on the money—glove flats are about to be one of spring’s It Girl shoes, and they go with practically everything. 

“These are my perfect cropped flare pants, and flatter my figure. (Read: curvy),” she summed it up. And for $11? Sold.

“Annie! This incredible, expensive-looking, just-the-right-size, chic bag is an outfit-completer,” she wrote, adding: “You can borrow it.” The coffee brown hue is so fab.

My mom calls these jeans a “must-have for my minimalist chic uniform and a companion for my (many) crisp white button-down shirts.” She told me she could easily picture pairing this pair with the above faux suede jacket and shoulder bag.

“This simple mock neck short sleeve top feels very Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Easy and classic.” Enough said.
