Naomi Watts’ biggest fashion critic lives inside her own home.
“Fashion is a big topic in the household,” Watts shared on Monday’s episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
The “Love Story” star revealed that 17-year-old daughter Kai, whom she shares with ex-husband Liev Schreiber, has a lot of opinions when it comes to her mother’s wardrobe.
“I take serious notes from her … solicited or unsolicited,” Watts added.
Though the 57-year-old admitted that “you kind of go, ‘oh, maybe they’re right,’” she did choose to go against the young model’s advice when it came to the Met Gala in 2018.
As a guest of Michael Kors, Watts had her pick of two options for the ball, which celebrated the theme Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
“Definitely that one, mummy,” her daughter strongly voiced, choosing one that apparently didn’t make the cut for Watts.
The star was caught unaware on her way to the gala that night when Kai FaceTimed her — while in the car with Kors himself — and realized her mother had not, in fact, slipped into Schreiber’s personal choice of gown.
“I felt really good in it,” Watts emphasized, though Schreiber reportedly loudly exclaimed, “You wore the wrong dress!”
Her daughter’s pick did, in fact, get it’s time to shine, however, as the actress wore the custom black ensemble to the Venice Film Festival a few months later.
However, Kai still wasn’t fully satisfied with the choice as she removed the chiffon cape as it added “too much drama,” to which the teenager shared, “you needed the cape.”
Schreiber has since cemented herself in the world of high fashion as she made her runway debut last March during Paris Fashion Week’s Valentino show and opened New York Fashion Week’s Jason Wu show this past September.
Though her daughter might have her own opinions about Watts’ wardrobe choices, the actress admitted on “Today with Jenna & Friends” a few months ago that she’s becoming “a bit of a momager,” adding, “She’s extra young, but she’s got her head on, so it was a nice way for her to feel pride about what she is doing.”
