Jaylen Brown #7 of the Boston Celtics is ejected after arguing a call against the San Antonio Spurs in the second period at Frost Bank Center on March 10, 2026 in San Antonio, Texas.

Veteran guard Patrick Beverley is convinced that the NBA is purposely trying to sabotage Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown from winning the MVP award.

“The league don’t want you to get MVP Sir it’s Really sad because you deserve it this year💐💐💐,” Beverley wrote on X, while reacting to Brown getting ejected from Tuesday’s 125-116 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Earlier, Brown stated on X that he had a lot to say about his controversial ejection, which sparked widespread backlash from his Celtics teammates.

This the shit I be talking about

Brown was ejected in the second quarter of Tuesday’s game after officials hit him with back-to-back technical fouls. First, Brown was furious when he stepped out of bounds while being guarded by Spurs defensive ace Stephon Castle, for which he was T’ed up. Brown felt that he was fouled by Castle and the C’s never turned the ball over.

In the ensuing possession, Brown continued to argue with official Tyler Ford that Castle pushed him out of bounds, resulting in a second technical and automatic ejection.

After the game, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla sympathized with his star player.

“I just give a ton of credit to my high school principal. He had the balls to throw a student out. He didn’t leave it to the hall monitor,” Mazzulla said, via ESPN.

“I understand completely where Jaylen’s coming from,” added the fourth-year Celtics head coach. “Absolutely. And I’ve got his back 100%. I think he was 100% right to be frustrated and do what he did.”

Elsewhere, Celtics star Jayson Tatum was upset that the officials ejected Brown during a nationally televised game between the NBA’s top two teams since the start of 2026 — the Celtics and Spurs.

“I disagree with it.” Tatum said, via NBCSCeltics. “The NBA makes a big deal about prime-time games and stars playing and being available.”

“National TV game, two of the best teams in the league, and you make a big deal about stars playing, then you (get) trigger-happy and throw somebody out the game, I disagree with it.”

Celtics Upset With JB Ejection

Meanwhile, Derrick White felt that his teammate was clearly fouled by Stephon Castle and had every right to be livid with the officiating.

“I think he got fouled, too,” White said. “He definitely earned the first one. I thought the second one was bullsh*t, honestly.”

“You can’t throw out a guy who’s done so much for us all year, and in a game like this, especially,” White added.

“How do you throw him out? I think that was ridiculous, and it was tough, obviously, to basically play the whole second half without him. I feel like for a lot of the game…I don’t know how much time was on the clock…but I thought that was ridiculous.”

In its Pool Report, the NBA tried to justify the Jaylen Brown ejection.

“He aggressively approached a game official while pointing and using profanity,” said Crew Chief Tyler Ford on Brown’s second technical foul.

When asked why no foul was called on Castle before Brown’s first technical, Ford said, “In live play we did not observe any illegal contact.”

Many analysts felt that Brown had a golden opportunity to audition for MVP against Victor Wembanyama, another MVP candidate, and the Spurs on Tuesday. However, his early ejection likely ended those hopes. Per Draftkings, Brown currently has the fifth-shortest odds to win the award behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Wemby, Nikola Jokic and Cade Cunningham. The Celtics star will get another chance to make his MVP case Thursday night against SGA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.
