Luka Dončić scored 41 points before his suspension takes effect
Luka Doncic has been named the NBA Player of the Month in the Western Conference in March of the 2025-26 NBA season. The news emerged before the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in a key game on Thursday, April 2.
Doncic had arguably one of the best months of his NBA career, and did it by way of the Lakers having their best month of the season.
However, while Doncic has been on an MVP-level run, despite the latest award, he still sits third in odds for the league’s top end-of-season trophy.
Luka Doncic Wins Player of the Month

GettyHOUSTON, TEXAS – MARCH 18: Luka Doncic #77 of the Los Angeles Lakers in action during the game against the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center on March 18, 2026 in Houston, Texas.
As March was perhaps Doncic’s best month of his career, the Slovenian guard broke numerous NBA records.
He averaged 37.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.4 assists on 49.2% shooting while the Lakers went 14-2 when he played.
Doncic joined Michael Jordan to become one of just two players in NBA history to score at least 600 points in March, and passed Kobe Bryant’s 2006 record for the most points in a month in Lakers history.
He did it by way of six 40-point games, including three in a row to close out the month, two games with at least 50 points, a 60-point bomb, his Lakers’ scoring high, and two 30-point triple-doubles.
“Luka scored over 40 points seven times in March and ended the month with 13 consecutive games scoring 30 or more points,” Edwin Garcia wrote for Silver Screen and Roll. “Luka was the NBA’s highest scorer in March while also ranking 10th in rebounding and third in steals. With Luka elevating his game, the Lakers dominated the league, going 15-2 in March. They haven’t won that many games in a month since 2000.”
Both for Doncic and the Lakers, it was a historic month all around, all while the star was furthering his case to win the first MVP of his career.
Lakers Injury Report Vs Thunder

GettyINGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA – DECEMBER 20: Marcus Smart #36 of the Los Angeles Lakers during play against the Los Angeles Clippers in the second half at Intuit Dome on December 20, 2025 in Inglewood, California.
However, while Doncic’s performances in March will likely be remembered for a long time to come, the Lakers have other priorities ahead.
First of which includes their upcoming game against the defending champion Thunder, a matchup that has been billed as one of the most important games of the regular season.
Before the game, Los Angeles released their final injury report.
Marcus Smart is the only full-time player on the injury report. He is officially listed as out with an ankle injury that has sidelined him for the past few games.
Kobe Bufkin, Dalton Knecht, and Adou Thiero, all currently in the G-League, also won’t play for the Lakers.
As for Oklahoma City, they just have Alex Caruso listed on the injury report, currently questionable with an illness.
A win for the Lakers proves they are true title contenders. While it is just one late regular-season game, getting a victory over the best team in the NBA would mean a lot to any potential hopes of making a deep playoff run.
Los Angeles is 50-26 and third in the Western Conference standings.
The Lakers vs. Thunder game tips off at 6:30 pm PST on Amazon Prime Video.
