NBA drops hammer on Jose Alvarado, Mark Williams after fight

The NBA has reportedly decided on punishments for New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams.

The league is suspending Alvarado for two games and Williams for one game after the two got into a fight during Saturday’s Pelicans-Suns contest, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The two got into a heated altercation in the third quarter that led to Alvarado punching Williams squarely in the jaw. Both were ejected from Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, La.

Alvarado will miss the Pelicans’ final two games of the calendar year: Dec. 29 at home against the New York Knicks and Dec. 31 on the road against the Chicago Bulls. Williams the Suns’ Dec. 30 contest against the Washington Wizards, which is the front end of a back-to-back set.

With Alvarado out of the lineup, New Orleans will need to rely more heavily on Jordan Poole, who had an amazing live reaction to the punch being thrown.
