The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to make it six wins in a row on Monday night as they face off against the Phoenix Suns. The Wolves, however, will need to try to do so without the services of star big man Rudy Gobert, who was ejected in the third quarter of the game.
The Wolves entered Monday’s contest with a 15-8 record. Gobert, now in his fourth season in Minnesota, has been integral to the team’s success this season, averaging 11.0 points on 73.4% shooting, 11.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.5 blocks in 31.8 minutes per contest. The four-time Defensive Player of the Year has played in all 24 games this season, including Monday’s matchup against Phoenix.

Gobert has a lengthy list of fines from the NBA. Throughout his 13-year career, the 7-foot-1 center has amassed 98 infractions, totaling $493,000 in fines. This is on top of the one-game suspension he received in 2023 for throwing a punch against New Orleans Pelicans forward Kyle Anderson.
On Monday night, Gobert was assessed with a Flagrant 2 foul on Suns big man Mark Williams as the latter flew in for what should have been a wide-open dunk. Gobert, who was late on the contest, decided to forcefully shove Williams in mid-air, resulting in Williams hitting the deck.

According to the NBA’s rulebook, ejections warrant an automatic fine of at least $2,000. The league will now investigate this incident to determine if Gobert’s actions warrant further punishment.
As of writing, the Suns are up 105-99 with less than four minutes remaining in the game.
