The 2025-2026 NBA season marks the first time in more than two decades that the NBA on NBC has broadcast weekly games for hoops fans. It’s a welcome return for NBC Sports, but for many basketball fans, it’s also a reminder of the 1990s, when NBC hosted many of the most iconic regular season and playoff games in NBA history as part of the NBA on NBC‘s original 12-year run.
Even before the current season began on NBC and Peacock, the return of basketball to the network was touted as a return to those ’90s glory days. This week on Coast to Coast Tuesday, the NBA on NBC is taking that literally, with a throwback broadcast you won’t want to miss.

Who’s playing on NBA on NBC‘s Coast 2 Coast Tuesday this week? (March 3)

This week’s Coast 2 Coast Tuesday is once again a double-header of NBA action. It all begins on the East Coast at 7 p.m. ET with NBA Showtime, live on NBC and Peacock, then continues at 8 p.m. ET with the San Antonio Spurs heading to Philadelphia to face the 76ers for a special “throwback” broadcast.
The action then shifts to the West Coast at 11 p.m. ET with the Phoenix Suns facing the Kings in Sacramento.

To celebrate the return of the NBA on NBC, the March 3 matchup between the Spurs and the Sixers will take viewers 30 years back, to the 1995-1996 season. What does that mean? Well, for one thing, the graphics package NBC Sports will use for the night is straight out of 1996. Literally. It’s the same graphics package that the network would’ve used if this game aired in 1996. So if you missed the old NBA on NBC scoreboard, or you want to watch replays like it’s the ’90s, you’re in luck, because it’ll all be vintage on Tuesday night.
More important, though, the “Throwback” nature of the broadcast doesn’t just extend to the look of the game. It extends to the coverage too, because a group of broadcasting legends who covered the original NBA on NBC era are back in the chairs for this game. Bob Costas, Doug Collins, and Mike Fratello are set to call the game from the booth, while Jim Gray will serve as courtside reporter. In the studio for NBA Showtime before the game, fans can expect to see familiar faces like Hannah Storm, Isiah Thomas, and P.J. Carlesimo, all of whom were fixtures of the ’90s and early ’00s NBC Sports basketball coverage. We’ve got the original graphics and the original cast. All that’s missing is watching David Robinson and Jerry Stackhouse on the court.
