NBA: Owners clear path to bringing back the Sonics

3/25/2026

The NBA Board of Governors voted to begin the process of adding two more team to the National Basketball Association. The teams were also exclusive to Seattle and Las Vegas. There will be a bidding process and the franchises are expected to go between 7 and 10 billion dollars. This wuld expandf the league from 30 to 32 teams.

With Seattle and Vegas in the West which would force one existing team, likely Minnesota or Memphis into the Eastern conference. All 30 owners voted in favor of beginning this process. The new teams could be added as soon as later this year and the expectation is both teams will be ready to play within the next couple of years.
