Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant told ESPN he plans to play in the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics. He will turn 40 years old in September 2028 and will be looking to win his fifth Olympic gold medal with Team USA.

“Hell yeah, I want to play,” Durant said, per ESPN’s Vincent Goodwill. “I would love to, but I’ve got to stay on top of my game. I’m not expecting, I want to produce on the floor and make Grant and whoever is making the decisions, want to put me on the team. I don’t want — not just for seniority. I want to still prove I can help the team win.”

“Today, yeah I feel like I’ll put my name in that hat.”

Durant has been Team USA’s leading scorer in three of his four Olympic appearances throughout his career. He broke Team USA’s scoring record with 156 total points and 34 three-pointers at the 2012 London Olympics. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he averaged a US Olympic record 20.7 points per game.

Durant is the only four-time Olympic gold medalist in men’s basketball history.

Durant Debunked Rumors That 2024 Paris Olympics Were His Last

It was widely believed that the 2024 Paris Olympics would be the last with Durant, LeBron James and Stephen Curry on the squad. While James confirmed he will not participate, Durant and Curry have yet to confirm if they will participate in 2028.

“You guys, the media, have projected that,” Durant told ESPN, per Goodwill. “That narrative, where did the last dance thing come from? I didn’t say I wasn’t playing. LeBron said he wasn’t. You didn’t hear that from me or Steph.”

James could retire as early as the end of the 2025-26 NBA season. Meanwhile, Curry is signed through 2027 with the Golden State Warriors and recently told People Magazine he was not planning to retire in the near future.

“I’ll declare itself, whenever the time comes to call it quits, which I don’t think is anytime soon,” Curry told People.

Durant signed a two-year, $90 million contract extension with the Rockets, which includes a player option for the 2027-28 season, in October.
