Netflix Partners with Greece in Strategic Film and TV Training Agreement

Greece has entered into a formal partnership with Netflix to strengthen professional training and skills development in the country’s film and audiovisual sector. On February 25, the Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center – Creative Greece signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Netflix, creating a framework for joint initiatives focused on education, talent development, and knowledge transfer.

Through this agreement, both sides aim to integrate international best practices and global production expertise into Greece’s rapidly evolving audiovisual ecosystem.

Greece gains access to Netflix’s global training resources

Under the partnership, Greece’s national film and audiovisual agency will select Greek screenwriters and directors to participate in Netflix’s Digital Educational Platform.

The platform provides specialized thematic modules, video seminars, recorded interviews, and exclusive sessions with internationally recognized creators and showrunners. Notably, Netflix will now extend these structured training resources to a broader segment of Greece’s audiovisual community, rather than limiting access to professionals directly involved in its productions or internal initiatives.

In addition, the Memorandum establishes a framework for further joint initiatives that the national audiovisual authority and Netflix will jointly develop to support the long-term growth of Greek creative talent.

Government strategy for the audiovisual sector

Greek Deputy Minister of Culture Iason Fotilas described the agreement as part of a broader national strategy to strengthen the audiovisual and film industry.

He pointed to the establishment and consolidation of the national film agency as a foundational step in building a structured support system for creators and producers.

According to Greek Deputy Minister of Culture, Greece now operates within a comprehensive framework that supports domestic professionals while also attracting international film and television productions.

He added that the collaboration with Netflix advances this strategy by providing practical tools and expanding international exposure for Greek creators.

Strengthening competitiveness and international reach

Leonidas Christopoulos, CEO of the national audiovisual agency, characterized the agreement as a milestone for the Greek audiovisual ecosystem. He stressed that opening Netflix’s digital training platform to a wider pool of professionals significantly expands access to high-level educational resources.

Christopoulos explained that the initiative aligns with the Ministry of Culture’s long-term objective of making Greece’s audiovisual industry more outward-looking and competitive.

By encouraging knowledge transfer and aligning local practices with international market standards, the partnership aims to strengthen human capital across the entire production chain from education and content development to international networking and sustainable production.

Netflix’s commitment to creative talent in Greece

Iole Maria Giannattasio, Director of International Relations for Italy and Greece at Netflix, emphasized that strong storytelling depends on strong talent.

She noted that the collaboration supports the mission of Greece’s national film body to empower the domestic creative ecosystem and equip Greek screenwriters and directors with the tools needed to compete in the global marketplace.

Overall, the agreement brings Greece’s public audiovisual strategy into closer alignment with one of the world’s leading streaming platforms and further integrates the country into the international content production landscape.
