Netflix has launched a brand-new app that’s available to all of its subscribers. Essentially a gaming offshoot of Netflix Kids, the new Netflix Playground app is an all-in-one solution to help parents of kids of all ages with age-appropriate and free games (via Phone Arena).
Available in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, the Philippines and New Zealand, this app is packed full of the content kids love, and is aimed at letting them discover and explore freely, while parents can rest assured they won’t stumble across anything inappropriate.
Games include beloved characters, with more coming
Netflix has been leaning into gaming recently, with Netflix-sponsored mobile ports of games like Civilization VI and Red Dead Redemption, but we didn’t expect its next venture to be games for kids.
Netflix Playground is a gaming app chock-full of games with all the characters your kids love. It’s completely free to download and play for Netflix subscribers, and there are no adverts or microtransactions to accidentally drain your credit card.
The app is aimed at children aged 8 or younger, and it launches with content from a variety of beloved kid’s TV shows, including Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, Dr. Seuss, and more.
Each game comes with its own challenges, and all are aimed at helping your children to grow and develop the skills they’ll need. Each game differs in content depending on the characters involved, with Dr. Seuss’s games tending towards rhythm and exploration, while Peppa Pig’s games help to build skills like counting and decorating. Sesame Street, as ever, is all about object and pattern recognition. Let’s Color is a fun standout, though, as it’s just a coloring book where kids can color in pictures of a number of different characters.
The aim is for each game to feel reminiscent of each property, but all are kept as simple and accessible as possible, given the young age of the children playing the games.
Netflix has stated that this is only the start of what it has planned for the app, and many new games and characters are on the way.
You can find the Netflix Playground app on the Google Play Store, and if you’re in one of the countries mentioned at the start, you can download it and start playing right away — provided you’re a Netflix subscriber, of course.
If you’re in another country, well, you don’t have long to wait before it becomes available for you too, as Netflix Playground will launch internationally on April 28.
