New ‘Prehistoric Wisconsin’ exhibit features items from the former Weis Earth Science Museum

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) – A grand opening was held Wednesday night to celebrate a new exhibit, debuting on Thursday at Appleton’s History Museum at the Castle.

The exhibit is titled “Prehistoric Wisconsin” and features ancient items, many from the Weis Earth Science Collection.

The Weis Earth Science Museum was originally located within the UW-Oshkosh Fox Cities campus. However, that campus has since been put up for sale.

With an opportunity to preserve these items locally, Stephen Weis, the museum founder’s son, says moving everything here was a no-brainer.

“It started off with a vision my parents had…having something like that exist for 20+ years and then with the announcement of the closure of the campus, you know it was already well established in the community,” says Weis.

Tickets are included in the price of admission. More information can be found on their website.
