New ‘Resident Evil 3’ Mod Announced, Aims to Restore Cut Content and Tweak Gameplay [Video]

It’s generally agreed amongst fans that Capcom’s 2020 remake of Resident Evil 3 wasn’t the strongest when compared to the remake of Resident Evil 2. Many noted that the game’s length was noticeably shorter when compared to the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and that a lot of content had been cut which Capcom wasn’t going to address. Well, as these things go, leave it to modders to try and salvage the situation. A “large scale” modding project titled Resident Evil 3 Last Escape has popped up, with the aim of restoring cut content for the game, as well as adding new locations and tweaking core gameplay systems to create a “darker, more survival-focused experience”.

According to the YouTube channel, the mod will include new playable locations, including city areas, Uptown, the Clock Tower, Park, Disused Plant, Cemetery, the Raccoon Police Department and more. The existing levels will see expansions and reworked layouts, as well as new Nemesis encounters and boss fights, and new puzzles and mechanics.

If that’s not ambitious enough for you, the mod will also feature redesigned item placement and progression, and a reworked crafting system with multiple gunpowder types. Also, Last Escape will see a return of the Ink Ribbon save system from Resident Evil 2.

While there’s no release date as of yet, the creators behind the mod have already shown off several videos demonstrating some of the new additions and tweaks to the game.

Currently, Resident Evil 3 can be found on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4 and the Xbox Series. Thanks to DSOGaming for spotting this.
