LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Shelby County Historical Society (SCHS) unveiled their newest exhibit showcasing 250 years of clothing from the county’s history.
The exhibit, titled “250 Years of Clothing in Shelby County, Kentucky,” features over 30 mannequins modeling both men’s and women’s clothing from the frontier settlement period through the current decade.
Clothing from the SCHS collection and loaned reproductions help illustrate how styles changed over time. Items on display include a 1920s flapper-style beaded dress and an Edwardian-era dress decorated with lace, glass beads and sequined flowers.
The exhibit also includes a variety of military uniforms from conflicts many Shelby Countians served in. Additionally, historic tailor Steve Abolt donated replica uniforms to display from the War of 1812 through the Mexican War.
Clothing displays are paired with existing SCHS artifacts to help highlight the people and communities that shaped Shelby County over the past 250 years.
SCHS is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
