Chinese EV maker Nio Group registered nine vehicles in the Greek market in February, registration data published on Wednesday by the Hellenic Association of Motor Vehicles Importers Representatives (AMVIR) showed.
The figures represent a two-unit decrease from January and bring the 2026 total to twenty units as of February 28.
For the first time since entering the market, the company sold more Nio vehicles than Firefly EVs in a single month.
The Nio Group officially entered the Greek market last November, as part of an expansion wave that includes several other European markets such as Portugal, Hungary, Belgium, Austria, among others.
The EV maker introduced both its premium Nio brand and the more affordable Firefly sub-brand in its new markets, where it is available through local distributors.
Nio has signed a deal with the local partner Motodynamics Group in Greece, which will also represent the brand in Cyprus and Bulgaria — set for later this year.
Earlier this month, as it aims to increase brand awareness in the Greek market, Firefly showcased its sole model at the AI-focused competition’ AI Hackathon’ at the Athens University of Economics and Business.
Registrations per Model
According to AMVIR data, the company has registered 40 vehicles in the Southern European market between July — likely when the first showroom and press purpose vehicles were listed — and February.
The group listed five Nio vehicles and four Firefly EVs last month in Greece, a contrast to the seven Firefly and five Nio units sold in January.
The Firefly EV accounted for the majority of registrations in the market last year, including one unit in August, seven in November and six in December.
After listing one vehicle in July, the Nio brand registered three vehicles in November — one ET5 (though it is unclear if it’s the sedan or station wagon ET5T, as the source does not distinguish the two) and two EL6 SUVs.
Two additional entry-level SUVs were listed in the market in December.
Portfolio
The premium brand has launched with its ET5, ET5T, and EL6 models in Greece, alongside Firefly‘s debut EV.
Unlike in its initial European markets — where Nio invested in battery swapping stations and sold vehicles with or without the battery — all models in Greece are only available with the battery pack.
As of Wednesday, Motodynamics Group has not confirmed whether they will implement the system in Greece, as the decision is up to each country’s distributor.
Customers can choose between a 75 KWh or 100 KWh battery.
The ET5 sedan is priced from €61,900 ($72,580), while the ET5 Touring model begins at €66,900 ($78,440).
The EL6 SUV starts at €69,900, equivalent to $81,960.
Nio in Europe
Nio sold 54 vehicles in February across nine of its ten European markets (excluding Hungary) for which data is available, a 37.5% decline from a year ago — when the company was present in just five countries on the continent.
Nio first entered Europe in 2021 through Norway, then expanding to the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark a year later.
There, the company opened direct-to-consumer showrooms in these markets.
Last year, the company introduced both the Nio and Firefly brands in Austria, Portugal, Greece, Belgium, and Hungary, while also relaunching in Denmark with a new business model.
Alongside the weak results of the first two months of the year, EV learned earlier this month that Nio has quietly overhauled most of its European management structure in February.
The company split its operations in the region into six separate departments and shifted its sales operations toward a dealer and distributor model across its earliest markets as well.
Expansion Plans
The company plans to enter the Czech Republic, Romania, Luxembourg, and Poland later this year.
The recent appearance of Poland’s country profile in the International Nio App, first spotted last month by EV, indicates the upcoming expansion into the Polish market.
The Shanghai-based EV maker is also expected to launch its Onvo sub-brand in the Old Continent in 2027.
Nio‘s co-founder and President Qin Lihong said earlier this month that the Chinese EV maker plans for a larger-scale expansion overseas “in the next two to three years.”
According to the executive, Nio will “lay the foundation” in 2026, with a forecast of “several thousand units” delivered outside of its domestic market.
