NMU hosts Science Olympiad

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – More than 300 students in Middle and Highschool gathered at Northern Michigan University for the 2026 UP Regional Science Olympiad.

The event has been held every year at Seaborg Center at NMU since 1987. The event sees multiple competitions from various schools across the Upper Peninsula.

Events are based around: social science, physical science, engineering, natural science and more. It is a great way for students to get hands-on with scientific projects.

“I think it is important because it gets you more hands-on than what you do in school, and it is not just about the competition,” said Iron Mountain High School Senior, Bella Pearson. ”You get to work with people in your school that you usually don’t work with, and I think that is amazing. It is really fun, and you have a good time.”

Winners of the regional event will be given a competition to compete in the State Olympiad downstate. Winners will be announced later this month
