On Sunday, the NBA announced suspensions for New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams, who were both ejected from Saturday night’s game in New Orleans after exchanging blows. Alvarado has been suspended for two games without pay and will serve his ban on Dec. 29 when the Pelicans host the New York Knicks and on Dec. 31 when New Orleans visits the Chicago Bulls. Williams will miss one game without pay and serve his suspension on Dec. 29 when the Suns visit the Washington Wizards.

The altercation between Alvarado and Williams started with 2:06 left in the third quarter after Alvarado was called for a foul for running into Williams on a screen.

Williams took exception to Alvarado’s foul and pushed him in the back. Alvarado responded by pushing Williams, and a fight broke out for a few seconds before players from both sides rushed in to separate them.

The Suns were up 87-83 at the time of the altercation in a chippy game between the Suns and Pelicans that came one night after Phoenix beat the Pelicans in New Orleans, 115-108.

Williams had 10 points and eight rebounds when he was ejected. Alvarado left with seven points and three assists.
