Philadelphia, PA (March 6, 2026) — The Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mitchell Lee Wein as the new Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer. In this role, Wein will oversee the museum’s finances, facilities, operations, risk management, and strategic planning.
Wein is a seasoned executive with more than 20 years of private sector experience working with nonprofit and governmental entities, as well as 18 years of financial, operating, and administrative leadership. He most recently served as the Senior Vice President for Finance and Chief Operating Officer at the Brookings Institution. Wein comes to the museum with a robust and proven record of expertise to ensure sound operational and financial decision making.

At Brookings, he worked in partnership with the president, was a key member of the executive leadership team and served in the leadership role for the institution’s financial and operating activities. Wein took on the combined responsibilities of a chief financial, chief business, and chief operating officer for one of the most cited think-tanks in the world.

Wein has also served in executive administration roles for more than 15 years at national liberal arts colleges, including as the Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance at Haverford College and a similar position at Lafayette College. Before his experience in higher education, he worked in the private sector for 20 years as a Managing Director in investment banking with UBS Investment Bank/UBS PaineWebber, and PNC Capital Markets.
A longtime resident of the Philadelphia region, Wein will begin his new role on April 22, 2026.
