Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis outlined a series of economic measures in his weekly Sunday address, aimed at easing the impact of the Middle East conflict on domestic prices.
Measures, with a total budget of €300 million, include targeted subsidies for lower-income households for fuel, supermarket goods, fertilizers and ferry tickets, with additional support for families with children.
“We hope the Fuel Pass platform, which allows households to apply for financial relief to offset high fuel costs, will be open by next week,” he said.
He also outlined national defense upgrades, with a total budget of about €4 billion, including the acquisition of modernized warships and fighter jets.
Mitsotakis announced a minimum wage increase from €880 to €920 for public and private sector workers.
He also emphasized the timely start of the Tempe train crash trial, saying the focus should be on the proceedings themselves, not the images of poor organization on the first day, which included problems with entry checks and seating for hundreds of attendees.
He added that these organizational issues must be resolved by Wednesday to ensure the trial proceeds smoothly.
