Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen have made the jump from the GBA to the Switch eShop, giving modern gamers a chance to enjoy a pair of titles originally released on the Game Boy Advance. While the Switch versions of these games are largely the same as they were decades ago, Nintendo did sneak in and make one notable adjustment.
Plenty of games let you name characters, and Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen are no different. Chances are many of us who originally played these games on GBA used a bad word or two for a character’s name, especially in our younger years. While some of that foul language can still sneak by Nintendo’s censors, Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen on Switch definitely limit your options.
While not an extensive list by any means, Kotaku has discovered a new slew of words that no longer work as names. The words include slang terms for private parts, standard curse words like “shit,” and even more modern memes like “dickbutt.” If you’re looking to go the crude route with your names in FireRed and LeafGreen, you’ll have to be a bit more imaginative this time around!
In Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen you’ll explore the Kanto region, discover wild Pokémon around every corner, and aim to complete your Pokédex as you battle your way to success. Earn badges as you develop winning strategies to use against each experienced Gym Leader, and uncover amazing secrets in your quest to be the best Trainer.
This digital exclusive contains the Sevii islands, where even more Pokémon await. You can also visit the Pokémon Wireless Club to trade, battle, and chat with other players via local wireless!
Please note that because these versions replicate the way the games were originally released, each language version is separate and there are no in-game options to change the language.
