FC Porto head coach Francesco Farioli has called for patience and support for Nigerian striker Terem Moffi after he was booed by sections of the club’s supporters during their UEFA Europa League clash against Nottingham Forest, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Moffi, who joined Porto in the winter transfer window, endured a difficult outing in the match and was jeered as he was substituted in the second half, reflecting growing frustration among fans over his recent performances.
Speaking ahead of Porto’s league fixture against Estoril Praia on Sunday, Farioli acknowledged the high expectations of the club’s supporters but stressed the need to continue backing the forward as he works to regain form.
The Italian manager noted that while there was visible frustration during the Nottingham Forest game, the Nigerian has been putting in significant effort behind the scenes in recent months and remains committed to improving.
“We know that our fans are demanding, which is good,” Farioli said.
“In the match against Nottingham, there was a moment of some frustration, but he’s trying his best, working hard in recent months.”
Farioli also expressed confidence that Moffi is progressing positively and will soon deliver more decisive contributions for the team, pointing to his early impact since arriving at the club.
“He’s on the right track, he’s already scored important goals for us and more will come,” he added.
The Porto boss further urged supporters to remain united and channel their emotions constructively, emphasising that collective backing is crucial for the team’s success.
“The frustration and emotion of the moment must remain in that moment; the Porto family must be united and undoubtedly support the team, showing that all the players are focused on what’s best for FC Porto,” he said.
Since his arrival, Moffi has registered one goal and one assist in seven league appearances as he continues to search for consistency.
The 24-year-old will be hoping to respond with an improved display when Porto face Estoril, as he looks to repay the faith of his manager and win over the supporters.
