The Premier League title race took another twist on Wednesday as Arsenal extended their lead atop the table to seven points, their path to their first Premier League trophy in two decades clearer after Manchester City surprisingly dropped points to Nottingham Forest.
City were dominant as they faced relegation-threatened Forest at home and took the lead twice, first through Antoine Semenyo’s 31st-minute goal and then through Rodri’s effort in the 62nd minute. Forest, though, had two equalizers in them – the first came from Morgan Gibbs-White in the 52nd minute with a cheeky flick, while Elliott Anderson had the second in the 76th minute. Pep Guardiola’s side were unable, though, to find another goal despite taking 21 shots and in the end settled for a point at a crucial juncture in the title race.
It was a day of contrasts in the title race, a very different scenario playing out for Arsenal at Brighton and Hove Albion. The Gunners were arguably second-best in many ways on Wednesday but Bukayo Saka’s ninth-minute goal was enough to ensure they would come out victorious regardless of the performance, extending their unbeaten run in league play to seven games in accordance with their seven-point lead over City on the table.
City will hang their title hopes on the fact that they have a game in hand on Arsenal, as well as the fact that the two still have to face each other in the final weeks of the season.
Here’s a look at the race for the title and each team’s remaining schedules.
