The President of the Hellenic Republic Contantine Tassoulas in his remarks from the Garden of Heroes in Messolonghi on April 5, highlighted the significance of the Heroic Exodus 200 years ago during the Greek War of Independence.
He said the Exodus “reflects to the highest degree the glory, the impact, and the lessons of the entire Greek Revolution of 1821,” emphasizing that “ the glory of the siege of Messolonghi does not crown the barbaric invaders; it crowns the free besieged who, through their self-sacrifice and heroism, put into practice the motto Freedom or Death.”
President Tassoulas also noted that “the lessons of our exodus show us how precious our freedom ultimately is, the unprecedented and incalculable sacrifices it required, and how reverently we must protect it. Today, we protect our unity; we protect our cohesion.”
