Prime Video Officially Adds ASL & BSL Versions to 18 Movies

Amazon is expanding accessibility by providing a more comfortable streaming experience on Prime Video for all customers. It’s been officially announced that 18 more Prime Original movies will have signed versions available for Deaf and Hard-of-hearing individuals.

Currently, Prime Video has a few Prime Original movies which offer American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL) viewing options. It’s now been revealed that an additional 18 movies are going to have signed versions made available for streaming. Customers will be able to locate signed content by visiting PrimeVideo.com/signlanguage, or by searching for titles using terms like “ASL,” “BSL,” and “Sign Language.” In the U.S., users can find them by scrolling to the “Accessible Movies and TV” collection on Prime Video.

ASL and BSL Movies Are Available on Prime Video

“When viewing a title with sign language interpretation, an on-screen interpreter captures the story’s tone and emotion with facial expressions and body language, providing a deeper, more immersive viewing experience than with traditional captions alone,” Amazon says of the feature. “Interpretations are completed in partnership with the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing community. The Prime Video teams collaborate with Deaf interpreters and DASLs (director of artistic sign language) on the end-to-end signing performance creation.”

Amazon has consistently worked with and for people with disabilities for over a decade, including advocation for accessible design throughout the company. The company continues to work on enhancements for accessibility across all products beyond streaming, including how devices and services like Alexa are designed.
