Prime Video Officially Replaces Ad Free Service With Ultra


Prime Video is kicking off one of its biggest changes. After announcing it last month, the streaming has replaced its cheaper Ad Free version with an improved, more expensive option.

Starting Apr. 10, Prime Video’s Ad Free plan was replaced by Prime Video Ultra. The change was officially announced on Mar. 13, with the streaming platform sending its subscribers a notice that the previous Ad Free plan “will becoming Prime Video Ultra.”

What Are Prime Ultra’s Changes?

The new plan comes with an exciting name title that makes it sound more like a Transformer or a part of Ultron’s followers. So, it is a very much improved version of the popular Ad Free plan.

As the title indicated, the former plan provided advertisement-free streaming options through a monthly subscription that users could cancel at any time. The plan would remove the ads from all Prime Video profiles on an account.

There were some exceptions to the rule, as some of Prime Video’s content continued to include advertising, free ad-supported programming, live TV, and sports events.

The Ultra plan comes with more changes, while keeping it ad-free. First, it’s the price. The new plan comes with a $2 increase, and will be priced at $4.99/month. As the Ad Free plan was a monthly subscription, Amazon now offers an annual plan, priced at $45.99, and it will feature a consistent discount of 23% in savings annually.

The Ad Free replacement plan will continue to provide entertainment with no interruption. Second, the Ultra Plan will also feature some bigger upgrades, including 4K UHD video, with stunning clarity in four times the resolution of HD. The sound will be even better, with immersive Dolby Atmos for a cinematic experience.

Third, unlike its streaming competition, Prime Video is doubling down on its password-sharing availability. While HBO Max is now hunting down password-sharing globally, after Netflix and Disney+, Prime Video Ultra increases its concurrent streams from three devices to five, which is great for larger households.

At the same time, it will also offer users the opportunity to download 100 titles for offline viewing. The Ad Free plan offered only 25 titles for licensed content.

Amazon Is Currently Thriving

Generally, a Prime Video subscription is included with an Amazon Prime membership for $14.99/month or $139/year in the U.S. The streaming plan is available in 240 countries, and has become one of the biggest streaming platforms thanks to its licensed and original content, especially after Amazon acquired MGM.

The streaming platform is also a go-to place for digital rental or purchase, alongside Apple TV, and it also offers plenty of different subscriptions to other services, including Starz, Paramount+, MGM+, AMC+, and more.

The new replacement plan happened at the best time, as The Boys has embarked on its last adventure. The fifth and final season premiered on the streaming platform on Apr. 8 with a three-episode release, and will release a new episode every Wednesday.

Aside from The Boys, which has kicked off a successful franchise, Amazon MGM Studios-produced content includes Fallout, Heads of State, Reacher, Red One, Road House, The Accountant 2, Beast Games, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Scarpetta, Young Sherlock, and The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Prime Video Ultra is now available instead of the previous Ad Free plan.
