Prime Video’s Perfect Dad Movie Becomes a Late-Night Favorite

Amongst the Academy Award-winning dramas, beloved horror movies, and countless other weird and wonderful film genres, there is always an important place for the Dad movie. Every year, hard-hitting, easy-viewing actioners provide perfect escapist entertainment that your dad will absolutely love, and 2026 is no different. Already this year, Jason Statham delivered yet another lesson in how to kick ass in his latest actioner, Shelter, Chris Hemsworth shone in the sophisticated thriller Crime 101, Alan Ritchson blended the Dad movie with sci-fi in Netflix’s War Machine, and more.

But the best of the 2026 Dad movies so far hails from Prime Video, with the straight-to-streaming gem, The Wrecking Crew. Starring the perfect duo of Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, the film debuted in late January and became an instant hit on the streaming charts both in the U.S. and globally. In the film, “two estranged half-brothers are forced to reunite after their father’s mysterious death,” the synopsis reads. “As they set out to uncover the truth, buried secrets resurface, and loyalties are tested, unveiling a conspiracy that can tear their family apart. Together, they are ready to WRECK anything that gets in their way.”

Earning a “certified fresh” critics’ score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, it was clear that The Wrecking Crew was a hit across the board, with a sequel seeming highly likely. The critics’ consensus on the site reads, “The Wrecking Crew is as brawny and disarmingly charming as its two leading men, smashing through a thin story with colorful pyrotechnics and a satisfying amount of attitude.” Three months since its debut, The Wrecking Crew has made it back into the streaming charts, placing as the tenth most-watched movie on Prime Video at the time of writing.

In a glowing review, Collider’s Jeff Ewing gave the film an 8/10, dubbing Momoa and Bautista the “perfect duo.” Ewing said, “It’s a fun narrative, the action elements are well done and uncompromising, and the jokes work. Sure, the narrative could use a little shine in certain aspects, such as the conspiracy at the film’s heart and the background of their newly deceased, estranged father, but as a whole, it’s a stellar outing and a lot of fun, a blank check for a probable franchise.”

The Wrecking Crew is streaming now on Prime Video. Stay tuned for more streaming stories.
