OLIVIA EVANS
I feel like it’s the Up soundtrack. That was really good.
Why is that your favorite?
It’s very human. I think one thing that is so fun is the art and the way you interpret by using other sources like sound, sets, actors in particular. They all have to mesh really well. So if you use these things to make people feel, I think that’s the best form of writing.
TAYLOR MCMILLAN
I suppose the first one that comes to mind is probably Pulp Fiction.
Why is that your favorite?
I think it’s because I like Quentin Tarantino. It gets to the core of his musical sensibilities. I think a good score is married to the moment, and I think a lot of those have become iconic and really kind of inexorably tied to those moments.
BISHOP ANDERSON
From Up on Poppy Hill. I love the opening song so much.
Why is that your favorite?
The movie itself is really nostalgic. I used to watch it all the time because my grandma got me the DVD set of all the Studio Ghibli movies when I was young, so I just replayed that movie because I’d never seen it before, and still now I put it on briefly all the time.
ALEXA MARSH
I like Wicked. I love the song “Defying Gravity.”
Why is that your favorite?
I’m just a really big fan of the Broadway musical, and I just think they did a really good job.
SAMANTHA LEWIS
Pocahontas — love that movie. Especially the “Colors of the Wind” song.
Why is it your favorite?
Because I’m Native. That’s really the only way I can connect to it, because they were also respectful to the animals and nature and that’s how we are, and, you know, it showed kind of the story behind what happened.
