Recommends a Swedish gaming fanzine – Jonas’s blog

Had the roads past the eminent Spel & Sånt in Norrtälje the other day. An absolutely brilliant betting shop where I never manage to go in and out empty-handed. This time I was looking for Mega Man: Wily Wars for the Mega Drive, which for some reason they had the luxurious reissue of at a really good price.

But… they also had the Video Game Magazine lying on the store counter. A magazine I’ve seen glimpsed on the internet, but haven’t come across before. It is described as a fanzine and has a slightly smaller format (physical) with a clear retro focus, and in the latest issue turtle games are on the menu. Of course, I chose to get this issue and have sat and read during the evening – and realized that I really missed reading about games in Swedish.

Of course, I love gaming magazines in general (via has even made one here at Gamereactor for many, long fine years – an era I often miss) and regularly buy, among other things, Retro Gamer. But… As I said, it has something to do with the Swedish gaming press. It becomes a little more familiar, people have a little more coordinated history and the language is not quite as bushy as in foreign countries.

The issue is packed with nostalgic reading so thankfully I’m not done yet, but if you want to have a cozy game reading on paper before a long train or plane trip (or just to chill under a blanket with a reading lamp in the chaise longue) then don’t miss the Video Game Magazine.

This left me wanting more. I’m already looking forward to the next issue.
