REDDING, Calif. — Visitors at Turtle Bay Exploration Park can try their hand at slacklining, step into a virtual reality extreme-sports scene and learn what drives athletes to push past “human limits” in a new exhibit running through the spring.
The exhibit “Extreme Sports: Beyond Human Limits”, is on display at Turtle Bay after being brought in through Science North in Canada, according to Julia Cronin.

Cronin said the exhibition goes beyond showcasing the sports themselves by exploring “the psyche of what it takes to make somebody want to be an ultramarathon or skydiver,” along with other high-risk pursuits. She said visitors can test both physical skills and “mental strength,” and “figure out what kind of athlete you might be.”
The exhibit includes VR goggles and interviews with extreme sports athletes, Cronin said, pointing to examples such as free climbing in Yosemite and wingsuit jumping.

Cronin also noted the Canadian exhibit offers a bilingual element. “Because it’s from Canada, the bonuses, you get to learn it in French too,” she said.
Cronin said Turtle Bay members can visit the exhibit for free, while others can attend with regular admission. She encouraged visitors to consider purchasing a membership.
