Resident Evil Requiem has made a huge impact on players after its release, and the title now stands among Metacritic’s greatest ever games.
The Capcom title was released on February 27 to rave reviews, earning high numbers from critics. After the first weekend since release, player numbers have put Resident Evil Requiem among an impressive group of all-time greats, and one surprising inclusion.

As shown in Metacritic’s best games by User Score, Resident Evil Requiem has an impressive 9.5 rating from players. This puts it as the joint-highest video game of all time, alongside 2025’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Resident Evil Requiem’s rating edges out some classics in gaming history, including Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Silent Hill. For some reason, Disney Cory in the House is also on that list of all-time greats.
Alongside Clair Obscur, Requiem’s rating shows that players are back in a prime era of gaming. They stand as the only games in the top 10 of the all-time highest-rated games released in the 2020s.
The vast majority of the top 10 were released before 2010, except for The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine expansion. Not to make you feel old, but several were released last century.
In terms of critics’ reviews, Resident Evil Requiem sits at the top of the pile for releases in 2026, establishing it as an early contender for the Game of the Year crown.
However, the Capcom hit shares the 88 Metascore rating with Pokémon Pokopia, Mewgenics, and Esoteric Ebb.
