The Kremlin openly threatened Greece on Thursday following Athens’ decision to co-produce sea drones with Ukraine.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed an agreement on 17 November to co-produce Unmanned Surface Vessels (sea drones), which will be deployed by both countries’ naval forces.
“This step, like many other anti-Russian actions of the Western world aimed at defeating Russia on the battlefield, has received the necessary assessment from our side and an appropriate response will follow,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Greece’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement stressing that threats against sovereign states “are automatically rejected”.
The agreement between Greece and Ukraine also provides for expanded cooperation on unmanned submarines should the sea-drone project prove successful. Athens has additionally agreed to supply Ukraine with US-imported liquefied natural gas over the winter.
Greek–Russian relations have sunk to an all-time low since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, with Athens backing Kyiv militarily from the outset. A tug-of-war frequently plays out between the Russian embassy in Athens and the Greek government.
Meanwhile, the left-wing opposition has called on the government to publish all agreements concluded with the Ukrainian president, insisting that accountability is essential.
