Sarasota’s BSWANKY lands NY Fashion Week debut

A Sarasota luxury design house stepped onto one of fashion’s most visible stages this month.

BSWANKY Atelier & Design Gallery created custom handbags for Christian Cowan’s Fall/Winter 2026 runway show at New York Fashion Week, placing the Sarasota-based brand alongside a designer known for dressing Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B and other global entertainers.

From Sarasota atelier to global runway

The collaboration marked a strategic visibility moment for BSWANKY, which operates from its Sarasota atelier under founder Gretchen Bauer.

Each handbag is handcrafted in limited quantities using rare materials and couture-level construction, positioning the brand in the high-end collectible market rather than traditional luxury retail.

Cowan’s collection, titled Before the Door Opens, drew on mid-century glamour and corsetry-inspired silhouettes. BSWANKY’s one-of-a-kind handbags were developed exclusively for the runway and incorporated into the show’s eveningwear looks.

“BSWANKY approaches handbag design as wearable art,” Bauer said. “The bags needed to feel powerful, intimate and unapologetically glamorous.”

The partnership reflects BSWANKY’s strategy of aligning with designers whose work emphasizes craftsmanship and statement dressing. The brand has built a collector-driven client base that values rarity, customization and limited production.

Cowan founded his namesake label in 2017 and has established an international presence in red-carpet and editorial fashion.

For BSWANKY, the New York Fashion Week collaboration extends the reach of a Sarasota-based atelier into the global luxury conversation while reinforcing Tampa Bay’s growing footprint in creative and design industries.
