Priyanka Chopra has established herself as an emerging fashion designer in Seattle. Those familiar with her brand, Priyanka Signature Couture, may have attended one of her trunk shows, studio, or seen her beautiful and luxurious designs grace the runway at Fil-Am Fashion Week, the Bellevue Arts Museum Fashion Show, and Africa Fashion Week.
Originally from Mumbai, India, Chopra brings a global perspective to her work, blending cultural influences with contemporary modern designs.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Chopra elaborates, “I grew up in Mumbai, a city full of color, creativity, and culture,” she said. “I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts, which laid the foundation for my creativity as a designer. In regards to fashion, it has always come natural to me, as I am very passionate about styling and creating visual storytelling through design. Around 2013, I realized fashion wasn’t just my passion but my purpose and that’s when I decided to pursue it professionally.”
Inspired by her cultural heritage, Chopra infuses vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and a unique blend of traditional and modern aesthetics into her designs. “Our textures, colors, and Indian heritage have always inspired me, and that deep-rooted connection continues to influence my work as a designer today.”
Having moved to Seattle in 2018, Chopra now calls the city her home and continues to expand her work as a designer. Recently, she opened the shows for two highly popular Bollywood entertainers, Badshah and Abhijeet Bhattacharya, who performed in Seattle this fall. Chopra had the opportunity to showcase her fashion designs, introducing her signature style to a diverse audience. In November, she also opened the show for The Art of Secret Emotions, presented by Bellevue Fashion Events. The event brought together numerous local designers and models for a night celebrating fashion, art, and music, further highlighting Chopra’s growing influence in the Seattle fashion scene.
Any fashion enthusiast looking to expand their collection are in for a treat as they will appreciate Chopra’s designs, which incorporate a variety of patterns, fabrics, and colors, including silk, crepe, and other luxurious materials. “I’m influenced by women, their strength, confidence, grace, and individuality. Every woman who owns her story inspires my designs. I’m also inspired by art, architecture, music, travel, and everything that evokes emotion and beauty,” she said.
Pertaining to her style and collections, Chopra emphasizes that she doesn’t follow trends but creates designs that are uniquely her own, “I create fusion,” she said. Adding, “My designs are made for the modern woman. Bold, confident, and unapologetically sensual. I love seeing my designs come alive on different body types, and different cultures and personalities. When a model feels confident in what she’s wearing, the garment only shines. I also love timeless fashion including classic drapes, structured corsets, and rich textiles and statement jewelry. So past or present, I’m drawn to silhouettes. I always do silhouettes that empower women rather than restrict them.”
In Chopra’s collections, fashion lovers will also find a wide range of designs, including skirts, saris, tops, dresses, special occasion wear, plus jewelry and accessories that each reflect her signature style and commitment to creating timeless, culturally inspired pieces for women.
As for challenges, Chopra notes that the fashion industry is constantly evolving, which can pose difficulties for any designer. “One of the biggest challenges is staying authentic in an industry that constantly pushes trends and fast fashion. So balancing creativity, business, and managing production across continents while educating clients about craftsmanship and value is always a learning curve. But challenges shape you, refine you, and make your vision stronger,” she said.
Advice to other creatives out there, Chopra emphasizes “Follow your heart, and don’t go by the book. You already have your own unique style and bring it out unapologetically. Your vision comes before everything else. Trust it, nurture it, and let it shine.”
