LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Kindergarteners at South Science and Technology Magnet School got a hands-on lesson in science today, with a little bit of “magic” mixed in.
The SESA program visited the school for a special presentation called “Magic is Science.” Through a series of experiments and activities, students were challenged to ask themselves whether what they were seeing was magic or science at work. The lessons are designed to get students thinking about how science plays a role in their everyday lives while also supporting what they’re learning in the classroom.
“When I was in school, you hand me a book, yeah, that’s okay, but if you get me hands-on, actively learning, it’s going to stick with them from year to year. When I come back, they’ll remind me, ‘oh, hey, we did this last year, we did that last year’. So, any time you can make science hands-on and real, something tangible that they can hold on to… it just sticks so much better,” said Rachel Smith, SESA teacher-in-residence.
SESA is sponsored by local companies including Ashland, Cenovus, INEOS, Nutrien and Fort Amanda Specialties
