SIU School of Music to Host Chamber Ensemble Concert Feb. 27

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) — Students from the School of Music at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will showcase their talents during a chamber ensemble concert on Friday, Feb. 27.

The free, public performance will begin at 7 p.m. in Shryock Auditorium and is expected to last about one hour.

The concert will feature nearly 30 students performing in low brass collective, percussion, trumpet and strings ensembles, according to Jessica Butler, assistant professor of low brass.

Butler said the idea behind the event is to bring multiple chamber groups together in one setting.

“We often have separate concerts, but I thought it would be fun to have more variety for the audience,” Butler said. “I also wanted this concert to be early in the semester so that our groups would feel the drive to hit the ground running in our music preparation.”

Each ensemble will also hold individual recitals later this semester.

Butler said attendees can expect a wide range of musical styles and performances.

“The music will be accessible, fun and exciting,” she said. “We have extremely vibrant chamber music at the School of Music, and I am excited to see it showcased.”

The concert is open to the public and free to attend.
